If I have not mentioned it before, I'll say it now; I spent a large portion of my play time in childhood playing with my Playmobil pirates (I believe the ship I had (and still have) is set 3750). I would often have my own piratical adventures or play at Treasure Island or Swiss Family Robinson. My ship filled in as needed (though I often wished I also had the Playmobil Schooner with the light blue hull).

These days there is a thriving Playmobil community online, and that includes customizers. On the playmofriends forum, a user going by BlackPearl2006 was not content to use one of the stock Playmobil ships as a stand in for the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean. I went so far as to use three different ships (Playmobil 5736, Mega Bloks Black Pearl and Zizzle's Ultimate Black Pearl Playset) along with a lot of scratch built parts to create an amazing three masted, 20-gun Black Pearl that is reconfigurable for display, play on land, play in the pool or even in rougher waters. The transformation from 5735 to the final Black Pearl is amazing.

See detailed pictures and descriptions of the conversion process on the playmofriends forum.

Trailer: NBC's Crossbones

NBC has released a trailer for their upcoming pirate TV series, Crossbones, which stars John Malkovich as Blackbeard. Of course the unanswered question is; where is his black beard? Like Starz's Black Sails, this looks like it is certainly not a family show. Crossbones will premiere on May 30 and show on Fridays at 10pm on NBC.
