New Pirate themed rooms at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

The concept art my look a little over-board (hahahaha), but Disney is turning a portion of rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort to piracy.

Old paper (more free images)

Found on flickr and free to use under a creative commons license are four great old, aged and wrinkled paper backgrounds. These would be great for treasure maps, invitations, letters of marque or other epistolary pirate paraphernalia (pirate things on paper), courtesy of bittbox.
Click here to see the set. To download one, go to the set, click on it, and then click on the "all sizes" button above the image.

Pirate News and Link Roundup!
Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah From Slave Ship to Pirate Ship is open in Philadelphia. It runs from May 31st to November 2nd, and its more of an exhibit than a festival. Click here to see the National Geographic page about the exhibition.
Why not spice up your next pirate ship or spanish fort diorama with a 10 foot life size fiberglass cannon from Largo Cargo? There's even a smoke option available. Great for creating your own pirate theme park ride scenery. (Or build your own cannon from foam if you have the time.)
deviantArt user mo013 has recreated the Pirates of the Caribbean (movie) logo in pencil (below). Great work!

deviantArt has lots of other great pirate artwork!

The Art and Work of Jeff Menges

Box cover for Atlas Games Pieces Of Eight by Jeff A. Menges
My Mrs. happens to work with pirate and fantasy artist/illustrator Jeff A. Menges. He has some illustrations up on this website. He has also helped design the game Pieces of Eight, which is put out by Atlas Games. He has also edited many Dover books on pirates, including their Pirate clipart book/cd-rom and a book of excellent color plates by Howard Pyle (who was interested in many of the same subjects as Mr. Menges). Keep up the good work, Jeff!
Skulls (More free images)

As a followup to the free scroll post, here are some skulls from myphotoshopbrushes.com. As that name might imply, these skulls are photoshop brushes, so you will have to have photoshop to use them. Enjoy!

Over on Vecteezy, you can download some cool piratey looking scroll banner images. These would be great for things like party invites, posters, web images or anything else your pirate heart desires. They are in EPS format.

The Peg Leg Club
Guess what me hearties? My finacee came back from Toy Fair in New York City with the 2008 catalog (my head exploded) and they are completely redoing the pirate line. It all comes out in August, and I think that is why the shelves at Target and my local toystore looked a little bare. Oh, and if you've never checked out Target, they seem to have some exclusive sets that are not in the catalog! Plus there is more at their website, where you can find one of the schooner hulled pirate ships. There are going to be new soldiers that look like Spanish soldiers, which is very authentically pirate. There will be a new big pirate ship appearing in other stores and on the playmobil site in August! The toys pictured here are not from the new line per se, they are part of my current collection.

Draw A Pirate: Another great blog about pirates

Draw A Pirate is a fantastic blog about pirates (and there aren't many). Some of the drawings appear to be penned by the blog's owner, while others are submitted or gathered from elsewhere. Its not just drawings, there are youtube videos and pirate facts sprinkled in as well. Their logo (a newspaper hat with a skull and crossbones) is so clever it can smartly be filed under "I wish I'd thought of that!"
